Chance (5.6% ABV)
Wild Leap Brew Co. (LaGrange, Georgia)
India Pale Ale
Chance pours a nice golden color with good head and good head retention. The aroma is bright and citrusy, like a good, juicy IPA.
The can describes this beer as "easy drinking," with which I definitely agree. It's crisp with a lot of citrus flavor, and low carbonation for an almost, but not quite, soft mouthfeel. There's a little bit of maltiness that comes through at the end of a large sip, but if you're drinking it slowly, the nose and hops come together to make sure they're the main thing you taste.
Wild Leap uses the terms "juicy" and "hazy" to describe this beer on its website, and it's kind of like a New England IPA - lite. It's hazier and juicier than a West coast IPA, but it's nowhere near the juiciness of an NEIPA. I think this one falls on the level of Ghost Train's Judge Juicy, with a little less hoppiness to it.
That being said, the hops give this beer a nice bite and stop it from being a total juice bomb (not that I'm opposed to those). I'm not sure how many beers I've given this descriptor to, but this is definitely one I'd recommend for friends who want to try and IPA but aren't ready for a Hopsecutioner just yet.
